| | Volcano, I'm Still Excited | ] | Seeing as I rarely post, I've decided to take the time and do a little something I stole from Molly (no, not that, you dirty, dirty person you):
one song
one song from early childhood: "Baby Beluga" by Rafi
one song you associate with your first big love: "Dry the Rain" - the Beta Band (yeah, that sounds good) or "Suggestion Box" - Aqueduct (if the first one doesn't count for some reason)
one song that reminds you of one of your holidays: some Israeli folk song my dad plays
one song you like, but hate to admit: "Cry Me a River" - Justin Timberlake
one song listened to while you were lovesick: "Tres" - Pinback
one song you listened to most often in your life: I... don't... know....
one song which is your favorite instrumental: "Fallen Heart" - Jeremy Enigk
one song by one of your favorite bands: "Ambulance" - TV on the Radio (of course)
one song in which you recognize yourself or through which you somehow feel understood: Same TV on the Radio Song
one song which reminds you of a certain occasion (and the occasion): "Best Looking Boys" - The Promise Ring, which reminds me of Becca and I screwing around at work over the summer (you love that song, don't you Keara. Admit it, do it!)
one rap/hip-hop song you like: "Brothers Gonna Work It Out" - Public Enemy (it just keeps going and going...)
one song that helps you relax: "Carry Me Ohio" - Sun Kil Moon
one song which symbolizes a great time in your life: "Get Myself Arrested" - Gomez
one song which is your favorite at the moment: "Dance of Days" - Embrace
one song you would dedicate to your best friend: Umm... the Numa Numa song?
one song no one besides you likes: "Elephants" - Food For Animals
one song you like because of its lyrics: "Guitar and Video Games" - Sunny Day Real Estate
one song you like which is not in english: "In the Sheen Biz" - Shabak (They either say something racist, sexual, or both. And in Hebrew!)
one song that helps you work out: HA! Umm... I guess it'd have to be Powerman 5000's "When Worlds Collide," cause the last time I had any sort of strenuous work out was when they were my favorite band.
Hooray! Done with the semester, and done with language forever! |

| | The Promise Ring - "Between Pacific Coasts" | ] | Today, I moshed to NoFx's "The Brews" in a gigantic dust bowl. Now I feel like I've accomplished something over the summer. Quote of the day: "Grape, that's the worst!" - Steve Salas, during a bottle fight right before Thursday's set, in which bottles filled the air and were chucked in all directions, many still filled with liquid, like the grape Gatorade that hit Steve. It stopped being funny after books, large plastic water jugs, hightops, and parts of the ground were being thrown at massive speed in our general area, hitting us so many times. So... many... times. Other good stuff happened too. |

| | one wonderful mix | ] | Today I stood in line at a burrito place next to the guys in the Editors. I'm slacking on writing this damn study abroad essay. I finally got my hands on the Violent Femmes' first album. This mix is pretty sweet. Townies make for an awkward mix to already awkward mixes at summer parties. Why are two day weekends so short? Boogie Nights was quite a film... hmm.... I guess that's it for now. Hooray! |

| | Duplomacy - "Stars" | ] | Weekend in New York, in no particular order: *Adventures in Prospect Park, featuring Voxtrot (boring), matt pond PA (surprisingly disappointing), TV on the Radio (amazing), and other various adventures there. *The Wedding Singer musical with the amazing Stephen Lynch. *Walking all the way through Central Park for the first time, passing a set by Balkan Beat Box, a carnival, and various other things. *Molly Jane working hard at Kims. *Zach not working. *Jhonny, Andrew, and the end of a big Fillipino party. *Running out of Applebys before ordering anything (sufficiently odd). *Other things!
Part of a five day weekend well spent, leaving me well spent and tired. Hooray for not having to wake up before noon! |

| | The Streets - "Geezers Need Excitement" | ] | Tonight at the Streets afterparty, I asked a practically incapacitated and incredibly cute Lady Soverign to play Electric Six. Seriously though, there's nothing cuter than a short, rapping woman with a British accent, a track suit, and a sideways pony-tail. Also, why did the Streets not play "The Irony of It All" and "Geezers Need Excitement?" Either way, a kickass show, more than I could have expected, and a surprisingly good stage presence. Hooray! |

| | Jeremy Enigk - "Shade and the Black Hat" | ] | *After being graced by watching the full-intro for the Drew Carey show with the Presidents' song, I wonder just how much Cleveland rocks. Is it as much as the Presidents' seem to state? That is a lot... I mean, they do have the Rock and Roll hall of fame, so that brings a considerable deal of rock weight... but I've got no idea about the rest... I shall launch an investigation, probably in the form of a road trip... *What's a "tomic rule?" *What exactly was Flava Flave on while recording "Can't Do Nuttin' For Ya Man?" Great song, perplexing insults at the end.
I suppose there was no true intention for this, but I'm very interested in seeing Cleveland, cause the Presidents seem to love it, but other people claim it blows. Also, those last two just seem to stick out in my head. Meh. |

| | Jeremy Enigk - "Explain" | ] | Alright, generally I don't do this, but Miss Laura Wolfe placed a tag on muh head, so here it is.
1. I tend to apologize profusely without realizing it or realizing what I'm apologizing for. 2. My oxymoronic struggle with my own elitism versus my inability to accept it in others. 3. I tend to have moments of ocd where I check my alarm several times before sleeping, check my door to make sure it's locked several times before leaving, etc. 4. I've been reading Catch-22 for 5 years and still haven't finished (no, not exactly a habit, but it's a little odd). 5. I thoroughly enjoy most things zombie... Wait, that's not that odd. 6. I tend to get attached to an album, listen to it several times before my head bursts until I find another album... and the cycle continues. -I tag whoever wants to do this -Once you are tagged you MUST write an entry about 6 weird habits/things as well as state this rule clearly
Done with that! Excited for others to arrive here (Pearlson, Feff and co, etc), yet I leave for DC on Saturday. Meh. Core is going quite well; getting ready to apply to study abroad stuff, taking care of some other things, and just taking it easy outside of work. You know it's summer when you have 2 barbeques in a night. |

Think of it as the country version of when Metallica played with the San Fransico Orchestra. Other things: *Snow Patrol at Newbury Comics on Thursday June 1st *Home Movies fest at Coolidge Corner on June 12th *Dave Bazan (Pedro the Lion) at TT the Bears on June 18th *Steffenwolf at the Hatch Shell for free on June 24th *Ben from Lucero at the ICC Church on July 28th *Tons of random other shows (Gomez, Reel Big Fish, Mr. Lif album release, Say Anything, the Streets, Echo and the Bunnymen, Mission of Burma, Lyrics Born, etc). *tons of other things as well Yay! |

| | Sound Team - "No More Birthdays" | ] | Aberdeen City: surprisingly entertaining. Sound Team: solid. Quite solid. Not much of a stage presence, but at the Black Cat, that's not really needed. Elefant: incredibly disapointing. The frontman felt like being a pompus douche along the lines of Juliette Lewis and had the rest of the band play an opening song before he came onstage. Then it went downhill as they played crap from the new album instead of the good stuff from Sunlight Makes Me Paranoid. The whole time, it looked like the frontman was trying to make out with the microphone and failing miserably, so we left.
Further notes: Drummers seem to really hold the bands together, as well as many other acts during live sets. Speaking of drummers, the drummer for Sound Team looked like he was still in high school; half the band looked like they were still in high school, including the keyboard player who looked like he was 15. And they make pretty good music; I never got why the blogs loved them to death (other than many of those bloggers being from the same area), but the album is really endearing and quite good. Now NPR is catching on (they had the song of the day the other day), declaring it the summer of Sound Team. I won't mind that; I can see listening to this thing consistently for the next few months.
On tap: Today: Jim Henson exhibit (maybe)? Tomorrow: Nats vs Orioles Monday: I... don't know Tuesday: back to Brandeis |

| | Coheed & Cambria | ] | Possibly the best, most shocking, and secretly funniest lines of Art School Confidential: "Yeah, that murder stuff is so September 10th." Speechless. I'm speechless. The entire movie was... ok; it's a thinker, it's a solid shot at art schools (and in retrospect, it's a good thing I didn't apply to RISD) and modern art society, but the external plot tends to weigh it down and the turn to typical Hollywood plot-thinking by the ending was disappointing. The thing is, the Hollywood plot worked well in culling the entire film together and solidifying its message; it really is a Catch-22 that I don't think too many critics caught up on, and if it didn't seem so long, I'm sure the brilliance of that can be seen. Really, without even going into the plot, it's incredibly difficult to explain, and even if one were to do so, you'd still go in circles. Just rent it when it comes out on dvd. Um... Anyone up for Elefant and Sound Team on Friday at Black Cat? |

| | Beirut - "After the Curtain" | ] | Alright, after the longest week and half, especially the last two days which saw 2 exams, turning in an almost-15 page paper, frantically packing, and spending a good day in a car, I've arrived to... nothing. It's nice to not have anything to do after a while, but I don't exactly know what to do with my time cause I'm generally not motivated to do much of anything. Plus, my sleeping's pretty sporatic. Anyway, some random stuff: -Pretty Girls Make Graves on Monday at Black Cat (maybe) -Elefant and Sound Team on Friday at Black Cat -First Beltway Series at RFK on Sunday -Siren lineup is ok so far. -I've gotten into a Public Enemy groove recently. The music I've been listening to has been taking odd twists, but they're certainly enjoyable ones. -Sleep. Lots of sleep. -I'm done with my major. ....That was interesting. -I'm still intruiged by Art School Confidential. -I'd like to check out the Hirshorn before heading back up to Boston. Apparently there's quite the exhibit there now and I haven't been there in... years. Jeez. -The urge to write is relatively overwhelming, but my mind can't keep up. -After succesfully seeing Pinback (awesome), I'd like to see two specific types of shows: an Israeli punk or rap show (impossible) and a show at Fort Reno (probable). Diggin through the old Israeli rap cds brought me back... I think I need a new needle for my turntable. Well, that was sporadic. I think I'll read or something until I pass out. Night. |

| | Appleseed Cast - "Sunlight and Ascending" | ] | Well, I've been mum for awhile, so I decided to steal this handy dandy thingy from Cynthia (yeah, Gorman did it too, but I saw Cynthia's first). Anyway, here's everything:
1.) Put your music player on shuffle. 2.) Press forward for each question. 3.) Use the song title as the answer. 4.) NO CHEATING!!! 5) I'm gonna put some comments on each one -------------------------------------------------------------- 1.) How am I feeling today? "Have Love Will Travel" - Black Keys. Um... sure?
2.) Where will I get married? "Who Wrote Holden Caulfield?" - Green Day. I'm guessing that either means on a merry go round, inside the Natural History museum in New York, or a seedy motel. Yay!
3.) What is my best friend's theme song? "Fill in the Blank" - Jimmie's Chicken Shack. Well, that didn't help, did it?
4.) What was high school like? "Baby Brother" - Detective Kalita. But who is the big brother. Who?!?!
5.) What is the best thing about me? "No Good" - Liars Inc. I guess my sense of irony?
6.) How is today going to be? "Rolling with Heat" - the Roots. Actually, it's a tid bit chilly.
7.) What is in store for this weekend? "Gold Lion" - Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Sweet, a trip to the zoo!
8.) What song describes my parents? "Live-In Skin" - Foo Fighters. Um... well, that's a bit too odd to be literal....
9.) How is my life going? "In the End" - Linkin Park. Talk about a wet blanket...
10.) What song will they play at my funeral? "Rock This Town" - Brian Setzer Orchestra. I'm cool with that.
11.) How does the world see me? "Bird in the Hand" - Har Mar Superstar. Does that mean a beautiful creature that's been captured by the world around me? Sounds kinda cool to me.
12.) What do my friends really think of me? "Lit Up" - The National. Haha.
13.) Do people secretly lust after me? "Mr. Rogers" - Korn. I guess I'm as popular as that guy. I've got the sweaters to prove it too.
14.) How can I make myself happy? "Modern Painters" - Destroyer. Damn, I knew I should've majored in art.
15.) What should I do with my life? "Old Field Recordings" - Dios Malos. Yes! Nothing!
16.) Will I ever have children? "Passing Out in America" - Alexisonfire. Sounds like I'm gonna have as many as possible until I become unconscious.
17.) What is some good advice? "Do Re Mi" - Nirvana. Fa-So is pretty good to. Check out Ti if you really want to go there, but I don't recommend it.
18.) What do I think my current theme song is? "I Will Sing You Songs" - My Morning Jacket. I like singing songs. But what, no Electric Six?
19.) What does everyone else think my current theme song is? "One Angry Dwarf and 200 Solemn Faces" - Ben Folds Five. Sure, why not.
20.) What type of women do you like? "Keynote Speaker" - Talib Kweli. Allright, future female leaders of America, here I come.
21.) Will you get married? "My Brain is Hanging Upside Down" - the Ramones. Obviously, such a notion does not compute.
22.) What should I do with my love life? "No. 1" - Shabak. Rap in Hebrew about how I'm the best?! Done!
24.) Where will you live? "Sleeping is the Only Love" - Silver Jews. That doesn't pay the electric bills.
25.) What will your dying words be? "It's a Bad Wind that Don't Blow Somebody Some Good" - Secret Machines. It seems I shall become wise in my old(er) age.
26.) How's your day going so far? "Forever Lost" - Magic Numbers. Well, I've made it to my room, that's important.
27.) How's your love life? "Bor Le'lo Takhtit" - Subliminal. Just as I suspected; foreign, incomprehensible, and filled with gun shots.
Alright, this has shown me a couple of things: 1) I should really go through my iTunes and look at what I haven't listened to in the longest time. 2) Israeli rap is still awesome. ... Yeah, that's basically it. Done with classes; 4 exams, a 5 pager, and a 12 pager to look forward to until the 11th. On that note... Attention anyone in the DC area who cares to read this (not that I've been posting): Who wants to see Pinback at the Black Cat on May 12th? I'll certainly do my best to make it there. Sweet. Hmm... I think Party Hard would be a more fitting song for my theme song... |

Why Peter Jackson, why? Who knew that a movie that's over three hours long, crammed with un-needed characters, one too many plot twists to simply cram in more CGI effects, and a gigantic ape based off of Lenny from "Of Mice and Men" could possibly suck? Oh wait, I did. At least the opening shot was awesome - then the movie started. |
